In addition to possessing an advanced knowledge of anatomy, kinesiology, and physiology, successful massage therapists must be able to work well with a diverse group of clients. Massage therapists typically work with people of all ages, races, and religious affiliations. A successful massage therapist must be caring, compassionate, and sympathetic to the needs of each client.
A massage therapist who wishes to own his or her own business must be able to work independently. He or she must be able to handle advertising, marketing, and accounting responsibilities in addition to treating clients. Since self-employment involves more financial uncertainty than working for an established corporation, he or she must be willing to take risks and overcome obstacles.
