provides Sacramento residents the training they need to begin successful careers as veterinary technicians. Students learn the information they’ll need to successfully complete the California Registered Veterinary Technician State Board Examination. They study anatomy, biology, physiology, and chemistry.
Since education involves more than just sitting in a classroom, students have the opportunity to get professional experience through a clinic rotation and externship. They’ll be able to observe proper animal care guidelines, perform laboratory tests, and see how surgical nursing procedures are used to improve the health of various animals. Program graduates have found this practical training to be invaluable in securing full-time employment.
students who complete the FAFSA application are eligible for federal financial aid. Students at can use Pell Grants, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants, Stafford Loans, Perkins Loans, and Federal College Work Study funds to reduce their tuition expense.
Available Areas of Specialization
While some veterinary technicians perform general duties, others decide to specialize in a particular area. Organizations such as the Academy of Veterinary Emergency Critical Care Technicians, Academy of Veterinary Technician Anesthetists, Academy of Veterinary Dental Technicians, and the Society of Veterinary Behavior Technicians provide veterinary technicians with the training they need to specialize in the various forms of veterinary medicine. In many cases, the decision to specialize leads to an increase in earning potential.
